When I first started out as a young photographer, I briefly spent time in the darkroom. There was something I loved about it… Dipping the film and paper, testing out different processes to get the perfect printed photos. It was an art that was empowering and beautiful, even though it took so much labor.
But it wasn’t long before digital photography overtook the art of developing. I’m not complaining, because digital has made it so much easier to create my own aesthetic. I’m proud of how far I’ve come as a digital photographer. But at times, I also miss those early days of shooting. It really pushed me to become who I am today.
It got me thinking, too. I have so many clients who just haven’t asked for prints of their photos. And I always wonder why. When I was a kid, one of my favorite things to do was flip through my parents’ and grandparents’ wedding albums. When I’m feeling nostalgic and missing my family, I’ll pick up old snapshots and reminisce. I’ll even look at my own old baby photos to see if there’s a chance my niece takes after me (Here’s a hint… She totally does!).
So why have we moved away from print and settled instead for photos that only sit on a hard drive instead of needing to get dusted off once in awhile?
I’ve realized that part of that aesthetic I mentioned earlier also includes the desire to give my clients memories they’ll cherish forever. I want your photographs to capture your story so that generations from now, your grandkids and great grandkids can flip through them and look for themselves in you.
I’m so excited to think about you holding printed photos and books in your hands that are classic and time-honored, and images that capture your happiest moments. That’s why I want to give all of you a special deal. For the next month, I’m offering 20% off prints to all of my former and current clients. I don’t care if it’s been 5 years since I’ve worked with you—if you’d like prints and books, and you’ve worked with me before, you can save 20% on whatever you order.
Expect more from me in the coming months. I’m focusing on getting back to the core of who am I, and as I do that, you’ll notice I’m looking for more tried and true ways of capturing you and your family as I focus on what I love doing most: telling your story.
