I posted about the Ecton family recently after shooting Adelaide’s senior photos at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Charlotte’s family owns a business off Southwest Boulevard in Kansas City, which is such a cool part of the city. It’s filled with some incredible restaurants, great little shops, and The Roastaire, which is a phenomenal coffee company. It was also the perfect spot for Charlotte’s senior session. We used the family’s building to shoot Charlotte’s Westside Kansas City photos and I’m incredibly in love with what we captured that day.
We got on top of the family’s building in the Westside area, which was such a great location for Charlotte’s session. It overlooks Southwest Boulevard and The Roasterie’s iconic building. What better place than to take her photos in this spot? I very rarely get to climb onto commercial roofs, so when someone floats the idea by me, just expect me to give a wholehearted yes if the background is as stunning at the Westside.
Charlotte is such a natural in front of the camera. She seriously just glows. While I’m normally taking family photos of Charlotte’s entire family, this gave me the opportunity to really have some fun and let her play a little more. Of course, she absolutely nailed it and I’m pretty sure she should be a model now.
I really loved shooting down on Southwest Boulevard. It has this really phenomenal commercial-meets-cultural vibe, and that gave our shoot a bit of grittiness that I really embraced. I love that Charlotte embraced it too. There’s really something super fun about capturing Westside Kansas City photos, because there really is a lot of personality there, and that matched Charlotte beautifully.
I’m so obsessed with what Charlotte (and Adelaide!) wore for these senior photos. These girls know how to find the perfect colors and textures that work beautifully with the camera. I loved Charlotte’s Chuck Taylors, too. We even got to use props with a cool old chair that seamlessly fit the mood we were going for.
We took advantage of every bit of industrial design we could find for these Westside Kansas City photos. I love that look of grit, especially because Charlotte really stands out in it. It gives her a bit of an edge, which I’m absolutely obsessed with!
My hope is that Charlotte and her family will see these photos for a lifetime and love the connection she has to the location and the role it’s played in her life.
I mentioned this already in Adelaide’s post, but we had such a great time capturing these twins on the same roof where Charlotte got to focus on her session. It was so much fun getting to capture the two of them together in moments of sweetness and goofiness.
There’s nothing better than sibling love getting captured on my camera! These two had a blast hamming it up together on that same roof where Charlotte got her photos taken.
I’ll say it again and over and over until I’m blue in the face… Let me capture something that’s out of the box, and I’ll be all over it. I’m just so grateful the Myers family wants me to be creative, and that they’re always willing to get a little silly.
