I’m trying to figure out how long I’ve known the Ecton family, and what I do know is that it’s been at least since Adelaide (and her twin sister Charlotte) have been little. I really can’t wrap my head around the fact that I just shot their senior photos! Time flies by so fast, my friends! We decided to shoot Adelaide’s senior pictures at Kansas City’s Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, which is such an iconic place in the city. It was such a perfect setting for this gorgeous girl.
The Nelson-Atkins is such a beautiful destination for photos. I get to capture everything from weddings and family sessions to, of course, senior photos here, and it’s no wonder. The museum has been a part of Kansas City’s history since 1933, and that’s evident considering how busy it tends to stay. We took advantage of as much of the exterior of the museum. From its gorgeous stairs and gardens to its massive pillars and pools, we played and explored. And Adelaide did that like a pro.
One of the things I really loved about shooting Adelaide by herself was that I was really able to pull out her adorable personality. Normally she’s surrounded by her family, and let me tell you — they are all big personalities! I love senior sessions because I finally get some one-on-one time with teenagers that I’ve watched grow up in front of me. Adelaide really shined in front of the camera!
Isn’t she so photogenic? She really is such a beautiful girl. There’s nothing better than getting to see soon-to-be graduates blossom in front of the camera. I did have to get a serious photo of her, which is hard sometimes, because she’s always smiling and glowing.
Of course, we took advantage of these iconic elements of the Nelson-Atkins. Kansas City is known by the shuttlecocks that are on display on the massive lawn outside of the museum. These shuttlecocks have become every bit a part of Kansas City as barbecue, jazz, and the Chiefs. We had to get at least one in the background.
I always love it when I can talk my clients into doing something fun like splashing around in the water. There’s something beautiful and peaceful about the reflection we got in the water, which added more depth to this photo. And I feel like it really made Adelaide’s cute outfit pop in the photo while bringing out her playful side.
One of the things I absolutely love about Adelaide’s parents is that while she and Charlotte are twins, they’ve always been so supportive of the girls having their own identities. Both girls got to enjoy their own individual senior sessions. But we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to let them take fun photos together, either. When you’ve spent your entire lives together, it’s so important to capture the connection that exists between the two of you.
We got to get on top of the roof of the Ectons’ business, which is just off of Southwest Boulevard in Kansas City, for this epic shoot. I really love that the girls are dressed so beautifully and wrestling on top of this commercial building in an industrial part of town. It was such a fun way to capture them, their backgrounds, and their personalities as sisters.
And if you’re ever wondering if I’m down to capture something that is non traditional — like getting on top of a building — the answer will always be yes! I’m so in love with what we did for Charlotte and Adelaide!
