Katie and Trace were married on hot summer day, during a beautiful Kansas lake house wedding in Council Grove. But I have to say, looking back at these photos, the heat is the last thing I am thinking about. Instead, I’m just blown away with all of the details of their gorgeous day.
If you haven’t been to Council Grove before, it’s worth the drive. Trace and Katie reserved the cutest location for Katie to start her wedding day. Katie told me Trace knew I was going to love the Airbnb loft they rented, which looked over historic downtown Council Grove. Its modern design was the perfect backdrop for Katie’s wedding day prep.
These gorgeous windows were to-die-for as Katie stepped into her dress (one of the sweetest dresses from Kansas City’s Bridal Extraordinaire, which was so perfect for Katie). She looked so stunning!
I couldn’t have asked for better lighting in this gorgeous space! I’m still so in love thinking about how beautifully these photos turned out with those windows in the background.
Just outside of Council Grove, Trace was prepping for the day, too. The couple held their Kansas lake house wedding at Trace’s family home. It was a great destination with an upscale barn. The home overlooks Council Grove Lake, which is in the heart of the Flint Hills. It was a great destination for their big day!
It was such a hot day that we worked really hard to make sure everyone stayed as cool as possible. Fortunately, the back yard had plenty of shade that allowed us to capture the lake behind us. It didn’t stop the happy couple from smiling from ear to ear when they saw each other for the first time on their wedding day.
We captured bridal party photos as quickly as possible, because when you’re in hot weather, the things you have to think about are the poor folks in suits and keeping those flowers looking their best. This party had such an amazing time celebrating Trace and Katie!
The couple set up seats right outside of the modern barn on their family’s property. The view was of the couple and that lake. This is where I forget how steamy it was outside, because both Katie and Trace look as if nothing can stop them on this day. The atmosphere was filled with love and joy, and I couldn’t have asked for a better day!
There’s nothing more fulfilling as a photographer than getting to capture sweet moments like this one, where I got to shoot Trace getting emotional seeing his beautiful bride walking down the aisle.
And then, of course, that first kiss as husband-and-wife is the quintessential shot I love to catch. Katie and Trace are now officially Mr. and Mrs. Tobin, and all of their loved ones get to celebrate and cheer for their future.
Walking back down the aisle, Trace and Katie were showered in confetti, which made for a magical moment before the reception began. This Kansas lake house wedding was seriously a dream!
Couples love rushing straight into the celebrations, and I really can’t blame them. Once the stress of planning is over, the real fun begins and there’s nothing left to do but party. Except for your photographer! We still have so much left to capture.
Before a couple gets too sweaty from dancing, I always pull them away for those golden hour shots. That perfect Kansas sky was wonderful for Katie and Trace’s portraits.
I love doing these portrait sessions, and I always capture both the newlyweds together as well as individual portraits to capture details on their day.
And every once in awhile, I think my couples should probably be models. These two are so insanely gorgeous!
Katie and Trace had their reception in the barn, and it was the most perfect space for a Kansas lake house wedding. Their friends and family danced and celebrated the happy couple, and they barely even took breaks to cool down.
What an amazing night! Thank you, Katie and Trace, for asking me be the one to capture your incredible day. I’m so honored to have been a part of your story!
