One of the things I love about wedding days is how much I get to learn about a couple, and Alyssa and Trevor’s gorgeous Kansas City wedding definitely kept me on my toes. It was obvious from the moment I met them they have a sweet, loving relationship. And there’s good reason for that—they have been together since high school! (That’s something I didn’t realize until their reception!) This couple has followed each other across the country, and now that Trevor has a PhD from Vanderbilt (!!!) they’re ready for their future to begin as Dr. and Mrs. If that’s not a story for the grand kids, I don’t know what is.
Since, obviously, I have to talk about this dress (because OMG, that dress!), Alyssa stayed true to her Kansas City roots and found her dress at True Society by Belle Vogue in the Crossroads District of KC. Like anything in the Crossroads, the space looks AMAZING, and it’s obvious that they have some dresses that are to die for. The details of her dress and accessories were understated and absolutely stunning.
There was much to love about this couple. But to be honest, there was so much to love about this entire family. I’m not going to lie, I had to grab Kleenexes several times to wiped away tears any time Alyssa’s dad talked about his daughter. The amount of pride and adoration he has for his little girl and the life she’ll continue to share with Trevor was so beautiful to experience. The same could be said about her entire family, though. Her sister/maid-of-honor and brothers shared in their devotion to Alyssa. It was so enviable.
And then, Trevor. I mean, just look at this handsome guy. I can only imagine holding a guy’s hand in high school, all the way through his PhD program, and now into a shared tomorrow. These two have so much brightness ahead of them!
Atonement Lutheran Church created a beautiful backdrop for the service, and this is where I learned much about the couple. It was obvious the minister knew their story first-hand and shared in their joy. The ceremony was so sweet, but we all knew they were ready to kiss and get to celebrating. Who could blame them?
I loved how much Alyssa wanted to play with her wedding portraits and party photos. We had such an amazing time! We headed to Swope Park and Liberty Memorial in Kansas City to capture these photos. Despite the fact it was nearly 2 million degrees outside, this group was amazing! I’m telling you, the right bridal party makes all the difference in the world!
Then came the celebration! Believe me when I say this was a serious party. The reception was held at The Harlow, a Crossroads District event space with a chic but slightly retro vibe. It gave me so many spots to shoot around for the couple and I was completely inspired by every little place I saw, both inside and out. I can’t say enough good things about this location.
Once it was time to dance, things got so fun! It’s obvious the Dimon siblings know how to dance, and I think Trevor’s friends have been practicing some of these moves since they were undergrads.
I also have to mention some of the incredible vendors who were used to make Alyssa and Trevor’s day so incredible. The Pretty Bride Co. was Alyssa’s stylist team and they did such an amazing job! The girls looked flawless all day, even in the heat. They used Gregory’s Fine Floral in Prairie Village for their flowers, and believe me, that work was gorgeous, too. The day also went off without a hitch thanks to Bridal Path Weddings and Events. Hannah was a wonderful wedding coordinator who even helped my day feel a little less stressful! And then, A to Z Video was shooting around me and my team — usually a huge challenge — with such ease and comfort that I would highly recommend them to anyone! Finally, that reception couldn’t have been complete without Shannon Bond Cake Design, Garozzo’s Catering, and Elite Sounds.
And one last thing: that veil! We went out of our way to capture it, so thank you to Kansas City’s Something White Bridal Boutique for giving us a chance to make some real art.
